FORMULATE POLICIES THAT AID SPEEDY DEVELOPMENT-MIMIKO CHARGES PUBLIC SERVANTS.



Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko yesterday tasked those in the top hierarchy in the public service to formulate policy options that will assist the nation to overcome her developmental challenges.

Dr  Mimiko, who stated this while declaring open the 36th meeting of the National Council on Establishment holding in Akure the state capital, maintained that for any nation to achieve desired result, there must be virile and dependable public service.

According to him, if any nation must overcome poverty, there should be a synergy between the political class and the public service, which he described as the engine room of societal development.

The Governor, who stressed the importance of reinvention of public service, lauded the critical roles being played by public servants and called for their training and retraining with a view to achieving the goals and purpose of good government at all levels.

His words “A stable and reliable workforce, especially in public service has been the most appropriate platform for the implementation of government programmes. I believe that the success of public programmes rests on the quality and structure of public service. The conducive atmosphere in our sunshine state will enable you to do an in-depth review of the establishment matters before you come up with good recommendation for the progress and development of public service in Nigeria ”.

The Governor used the forum to explain some of his administration’s packages to enhance quality service delivery to include, 50% of basic salary to workers as end of the year bonus, regular training and retraining of workers, renovation and equipment of offices, reduction in the interest rate of car loans and payment of N22, 000 minimum wage for workers among others.

In his keynote address, the head of the civil service of the federation, Alhaji Isa Bello Sali, noted that the aim of the meeting is to reposition and reform the service and constantly review the basic operating rules guiding it in order for it to take its pride of place in the process of transforming Nigeria

He added that during the meeting, various strategies would be implemented to transform public service and make it deliver prompt and quality service to the people.

Earlier in his welcome speech, the head of service of Ondo State , Mr Ajose Kudehinbu, noted that the present administration in the State has brought genuine innovation into the system, thereby impacting on the lives of the public servants.
